🌞 Summer Lawn Care Update: Watch for Fungus & Nutsedge!

Yard Fungus| Hackmann Lawn | St. Charles MO

With the Midwest summer kicking into full gear, recent heavy rain followed by heat has created the perfect storm for lawn issues—specifically fungus and nutsedge.

🔍 What to Watch For:

  • Fungus: Look for irregular brown or gray patches, especially in areas that stay damp or shaded.
  • Nutsedge: This weed grows faster and taller than grass, has a triangular stem, and can quickly take over if left unchecked.

🛠️ Treatment Options:

Many of our customers are already signed up for fungus and nutsedge treatments, but if you’re not—now’s the time.

✅ Fungicide Treatments:

  • Offer preventative, curative, and systemic protection.
  • Single applications help every lawn.
  • For best results, apply every 2 weeks.
  • No watering required after application.

✅ Nutsedge Control:

  • Targets annual and perennial sedges.
  • One application provides up to 75% control for around 60 days.
  • Best applied after the weed has emerged (post-emergent).

✅ Summer Lawn Tips to Stay Ahead:

  • Mow high: Keep your grass at 3.5"–4" for stronger roots and better drought tolerance.
  • Water occasionally: If possible, aim for 1” of water per week including rainfall.
  • Feed your lawn: Regular nutrition promotes faster recovery from stress and disease.
